About the Cover
The importance and the prevalence of biofilms have been increasingly described in the literature. Biofilms are diverse in their composition (one species of microbe vs. a community of microbes), locations they populate (biomedical devices, water cooling towers, natural environments), and their impact on the environment they inhabit and individuals encountering them and their by-products. The cover picture is a scanning electron micrograph of a Staphylococcus biofilm on the inner surface of a needleless connector. To learn more about biofilms, see the article in this issue by Rao et al. on Biofilm Research-Implications to Biosafety and Public Health.
