About the Cover

Bacillus anthracis is the causative agent of anthrax. It is a tenacious Gram positive spore former that is endemic in most countries, and resistant to many decontaminating agents. This issue contains two articles focused on decontamination and sterilization. Rogers et al. (pages 89-98) provides a comprehensive review of the efficacy of various fumigants tested as decontaminants of B. anthracis spores and commonly used stimulant organisms. Daugelat et al. (pages 105-112) describe the design and validation process for a continuous flow liquid effluent waste sterilization system. Each of these articles provides data and applied information that demonstrates efficacy, and can be used by biosafety practitioners in their own facilities. They also serve to remind us of the importance in testing decontaminating agents against the actual organism of interest, and to have a method to validate the test procedure. The Editors invite readers to submit a Brief Communication or an Article on efficacy testing they have conducted in their facilities.
